WHO WE ARE

The Eastern Shore Writers’ Association, founded in 1985, is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization supporting writers, other writers’ groups, and the literary arts across the Delmarva Peninsula and the Eastern Shore. We welcome members to share experiences with other writers about every facet of converting ideas, feelings, hopes, dreams, and opinions to the printed word. We are poets, novelists, and writers of stories, essays, articles, and memoirs. Members write fiction and nonfiction, for the page and for stage and screen. Some are editors and small publishers.

Our members range from individuals who aspire to write to those who have published all of their lives. While 80% are published, some write for the simple pleasure of the process. Others write so our family histories survive us.

WHAT OUR MEMBERS HAVE ACCOMPLISHED

Our members have contributed to a multitude of publications and books around the United States and beyond. In addition to books, members have written for: Newsweek, Time, People, Parade, Outdoor Life, Parade, Ms., True Confessions, the Christian Science Monitor, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Courier-Journal, the Baltimore Sun, The Nation, regional publications and many more. Some have published text books, novels, chap books, screen plays, short fiction, poetry, and online journals. Others have been journalists, freelance writers, instructors, critics, editors, and business writers.

OUR MEMBERSHIP, MEETINGS, AND WHAT WE DO

The association meets monthly (excluding July and August), on the second Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meetings rotate between locations around the Delmarva Peninsula, as a convenience to members. The programs are informal and cover topics of specific interest to writers, as well as public readings. All are open to the public, followed by an optional lunch where members are encouraged to exchange information with each other and the speakers.

Membership benefits include: ESWA’s E-News monthly newsletter, a copy of The Delmarva Review; a new literary review for all writers ( www.delmarvareview.com ), the Membership Directory, an updated website with information for writers, informal monthly meetings with speakers, special writers’ programs, and support of the Bay to Ocean Writers Conference, which provides a unique educational opportunity to writers across the region ( www.baytoocean.com ).
