An Evening of Playing with Writing Prompts

Who’da thunk it? When we started Q@TK way back in 2020, we thought it was a necessary but lighthearted diversion, a way for those of us feeling a bit isolated to get together – at least virtually – and have a little online fun, in a not-so-fun time. Well, things have changed since then. While Covid has by no means disappeared, our lives have largely returned to “normal,” whatever that means. (Or a “new normal,” an equally dubious term.) The fact that we can now meet in person, masked or otherwise, has allowed us to resume some non-virtual meetings—yay!! But we’ve also discovered that Zoom meetings are actually a good thing: people we wouldn’t be able to meet in person can speak to us and read us their work from those little squares on the screen, and that’s really kind of cool!
While we might not have quite as much free writing time as we did before the vaccine allowed us to wrestle the virus into some degree of submission, we’re still beginning new projects. We’re researching and writing, taking notes and conducting interviews, scouring YouTube and the Internet for relevant documentaries. We’re writing outlines, first drafts, second drafts, scenes, dialogs, notes, chapters. Maybe we’ve even finished a book or two. Or maybe we’re still at the stage of fixin’ to contemplate doing some of these things.
Yet we’re still in need of fresh ideas and inspiration. And company! Writing isn’t just an individual endeavor, it’s a collective one, too. Who doesn’t love seeing one of those little applause emojis on the Zoom screen, or a nice comment in the chat?
So here we are for another go-round of Quarantined at the Keyboard, 2023 Edition! Embrace your inner Marx Brothers, Patrick McManus, David McCullough, Barbara Kingsolver, or Alice Walker and turn your imagination loose!

Once registered, a link will be emailed to you containing our excellent writing prompts free for download. Write during the week before and share your writing at this fantastic monthly meet up!  Come one, come all—writers of all genres!
