FRAN CLAGGETT-HOLLAND is a teacher, poet, dog-lover who loves to see others’ poetry dreams materialize. After nearly sixty years with her lifelong partner Madge Holland, who died in 2014, Fran is now dedicating herself to poetry in both a personal and larger sense. Fran has found Zoom a way to stay in touch with her poetry group as well as poetry groups in other areas. The Eastern Shore Writing Association has proved rich with many different poetry-themed programs. Another, a group of university professors in Canada and the States, is a long-running source of people with whom to share their writing. Locally, in addition to various poetry groups, there is the Redwood Writers, the largest writing organization in California; through that group, Fran, along with Les Bernstein, edits an annual poetry anthology of members’ writings. Fran’s current book of poems, Under the Wings of the Crow, includes new poems, and poems selected from previous collections-- Black Birds and Other Birds (Taurean Horn Press), Crow Crossings, and The Consciousness of Stone (both RiskPress) and Moments with Madge: Lux Aeterna (the White Crow Press). She has published poetry in other publications--Heinemann, Houghton Mifflin, Scholastic, NCTE, U.C. Berkeley (plus various small magazines and journals).
