If “Poetry is a map to find ourselves” (Michelle Brittan Rosado), then poets are cartographers of the soul. In this generative workshop, writers will consider their own internal landscapes and discover how to map out spaces that are much more than geographical locations. Reading and responding to poems by writers such as Ellen Bass, Kaveh Akbar, Bruce Weigl, Truong Tran, and Chet’la Sebree, they will generate poems in response to prompts that traverse the places of memory, imagination, motivation, and identity. Writers will leave the workshop with the bones of two poems and a map to help them explore their inner selves as place.
