Born and brought up in the south-east of England, close to the salt marshes of the River Thames, with two, keen, amateur artists for parents, Naomi Clark-Turner has been painting and drawing her entire life.
Although interested in art as a potential career, she ultimately chose to pursue the sciences for her career, gaining a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, and spent her working life in pharmaceuticals. In 2002 she was offered a role in a US-based small biotech company and made the move from England to Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.
At this point Naomi decided to spend more time cultivating her passion for art and watercolor. She made many trips to the Eastern Shore of Maryland with her family, feeling an immediate sense of familiarity and connection to the landscape, so like the reeds and marshes where she grew up in the UK.
Drawn to St. Michaels, Naomi and her husband felt most at home there, eventually buying a house in 2009, close to the River Miles where she could "relax and breathe". After taking early retirement in 2019, she moved permanently to Maryland with her husband. She immediately threw herself into expanding her artistic skills, taking full advantage of the Academy Art Museum in Easton. In addition to working in watercolor, she also paints in oils, pastels and gouache as well as her specialty, drawing with graphite.
The Chesapeake Bay remains a constant inspiration for many of her paintings, and she is drawn to the luminosity in landscapes created by early morning and late afternoon sun. In contrast, she is also fascinated by architecture and the urban scenes found in the nearby small towns. She also loves to travel, usually to study and paint with some of her favorite artists.
Naomi is currently President of the Working Artists Forum (WAF) in Easton, a member of the St. Michaels Art League (SMAL) and teaches drawing, sketching and watercolor for beginners at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, MD. While primarily a studio-painter, she enjoys the challenge of plein air painting with the Plein Air Painters of the Chesapeake Bay (PAPCB)
She has won several awards for her artwork including the Best Representation of Village Life and the Judges Choice award at the 2024 and 2025 Oxford Fine Arts Shows, respectively, and the Best Representation of St. Michaels in the St. Michaels Art League Banner Art Show.
Her artwork can be found on her personal website and art website as well as her Instagram account.
